Javelin Strategy & Research, a division of Greenwich Associates, provides strategic insights into customer transactions, increasing sustainable profits for financial institutions, government, payments companies, merchants and other technology providers.

The Role:
Javelin is looking for an independent, analytical thinker who has a strong knowledge of market research. Experience working in the market research industry, preferably on the vendor side (custom market research agencies) is strongly desired.  This position is based in Pleasanton, California but open to remote candidates.

Principal Accountabilities:
Work within the Custom Research Team at Javelin to manage research projects from start to finish with the following day-to-day responsibilities:
  • Work with industry analysts to manage Javelin in-house research projects or external client driven custom projects
  • Work on  design of  research questionnaires in survey based projects
  • Manage project operations and work with vendors(sample suppliers, survey programmers, data processors) to oversee survey fielding, data collection and data processing
  • Formulate analyses plans, write cross-tab/banner plans and creating graphs from data tables for report inputs
  • Using data and  statistical techniques (SPSS mainly ) to conduct market sizing, market forecast analysis
  • Writing research reports based on quantitative and qualitative data analysis
  • Responding to specific client queries based on primary or secondary research data
  • Gather secondary research about banking technology and specific companies in the financial space.


Required experience:

  • 3-5 years in a hands-on quantitative market research role (client or supplier side, preferably supplier side).
  • Candidates with Bachelor’s or Master’s degree who are comfortable with numbers and advanced statistics coupled with the ability to communicate findings and recommendations in conversational business formats.
  • Previous experience working in areas of financial services, mobile, or payments highly valued.

Desirable skills and knowledge:

  • Strong SPSS skills with good understanding of concepts like data weighting, correlation, regression, forecasting and market sizing calculations
  • Experience in working with large data sets and data tables
  • Experience working with market research vendors and managing research projects including fielding operations and data management (through vendors)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Experience in writing Market research proposals and reports a big plus.
  • Have a good understanding of sampling issues (quotas, sample sizes, weighting)
  • Willingness to explore data to uncover new findings and recommendations
  • Ability to easily grasp new concepts related to financial services, mobile technology, how consumers pay for goods and bills, and how financial institutions protect their customers’ data and privacy.
  • High degree of competence with MS Office applications: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook.
  • Experience in working in a client servicing role, a plus
